This week the Einstein Papers Project received our advance copies of the documentary edition and translation volumes of The Collected Papers of Albert Einstein, Volume 17, The Berlin Years: Writings and Correspondence, June 1929–November 1930.
Equally exciting, this month marks the 24th anniversary of Diana Kormos Buchwald's tenure as Einstein Papers Project Director. The project moved to Caltech in 2000. Volume 17 of The Collected Papers is the ninth documentary edition volume, and ninth translation edition volume, in addition to a cumulative bibliography and index volume, to be produced under Buchwald's stewardship.
Our books take approximately three years to produce-- from initial gathering of materials that fall within the scope of a volume's time period, to the book's final release, handled by our publisher Princeton University Press. Our work, volume to volume overlaps in varying degrees. Many editors began research on volume 18 in 2023 simultaneous to the final stages of book production for our about-to-be-released volume.
The Collected Papers of Albert Einstein, Volume 17 will be released in the US on September 3rd and in the UK on October 29th.
